Name: Belle, Beauty, and/or Lady Beauty
Story: Beauty in the Beast (Redone numerous times but original by Madame Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve)
Location: Fabletown
Occupation: Bookstore Clerk
Resources: Peasant
Popularity: Mythic
Known Powers or Skills: Speed reader, able to charm even the most crass of men with a smile, able to navigate the New York City Subway safely and without getting lost (which everyone knows is a feat in and of itself)
Equipment: Books (lots of them), clothes & other general things
History: (Am using the version of the history found here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beauty_and_the_Beast#Beauty_and_the_Beast_in_popular_culture under Villeneuve's version as that is the original writer)
The daughter of a a cruel fairy/witch (the same one who cast the spell on Beast) and a King, Belle was given to a rich merchant to be raised when her mother attempted to kill the King. Belle was raised ignorant of her true heritage, all the while believing herself to be the youngest daughter of three to a rich merchant, Maurice, turned widower.
Belle's adopted father loses all his wealth when his ships are all lost, save one, in a horrible storm. When Maurice finds out one of his ships survived the storm he journeys to the city to go investigate it and before going asks each of his daughters what present they would like him to bring back. Belle's elder sisters ask for jewels and dresses, but Belle wishes only a winter rose. At the city Maurice learns that all the cargo of this ship has been seized to pay off debts and he is forced to travel back empty handed.
Along the way back Maurice gets lost in the woods and is forced to seek shelter in a castle he comes upon. He finds the tables laden with food and a roaring fire, he eats and drinks before falling asleep by the fire. When he awakens he explores the castle grounds and finds a magical rose garden, he takes the most beautiful rose for Belle. The owner of the castle a man cursed to take the shape of a beast throws Maurice into prison for taking his 'most prized possesion.' The only way Maurice can get free is to send his daughter to take his place, Maurice reluctantly agrees.
Maurice tries to pretend that he didn't make that promise when he returns home but headstong Belle pries it from him and honors her father's agreement, going to live with the beast. Eventually she comes to love him and her kiss allows him to turn back into human form again (for a time at least).
Things seemed well Lord Beast and Lady Beauty were happily married, until the Adversary showed up. The couple were forced to flee with not much but the clothes on their back, into the Mundy world. The two settled into Fabletown, Beast got work as a Handyman and Beauty became a clerk at a local Bookstore, often going to work by subway as she has no wish to learn how to drive and refuses to allow her husband to drive her all the time when she is capable of getting there herself.
