Name: Merv Pumpkinhead (Jack Pumpkinhead in some realms)
Story:The Marvelous Land of Oz, Realm of Dreaming (Sandman)
(composite character combining pumpkinheads from both)
Occupation: Farm Janitor/Custodian
Resources: Peasant
Popularity:Whimsical
Known Powers or Skills:
Magical Nature- Obviously having a pumpkin for a head, and a body made of tree branches, he is about as far from normal as anything can be. He (or others) may carve new heads for him from pumpkins should his current one be damaged. Likewise his body may be replaced with other sticks.
Should his head become stuffed with foreign objects his concentration becomes more and more scattered
Item Summon- He is occasionally able to reach into the shadows of his shirt, and pull out objects created from dreamstuff. Any objects will disspate back into dream fabric within a short period of time, and he is usually only able to summon terribly odd, humourous items.
Equipment: Trusty mop and bucket, wacky arsenal of dreamstuffs
History:
Created by the Lord of Dreams an age ago, Merv served many centuries as the janitor for the royal palace, in the kingdom of dreaming.
Known by denziens of the drema realm as the Jaded, street-wise, cigar-smoking janitor. As his name implies, he has a pumpkin for a head, and his overall appearance is similar to that of a scarecrow combined with a jack-o'-lantern.
Merv went about his duties for many centuries, ever gripping to anyone who would listen about his work, ever fabricating yarns about his fictional adventures that any child listening to him could tell to be false.
Still he never stopped wishing for a grand adventure beyond the drab walls (well, to him anyway) of the dream kingdom, so thus the Dream King repaid his servant with a great gift....sending him from the etherial land of dreaming to more solid realms where he would find adventures enough to tell stories for a thousand years.
Finding himself then recreated in the Land of Oz, put together by a young boy named Mombi. He missed out on the early adventures in the Land of Oz, all the good witches having already been flattened before he arrived.
So he did his damnedest to stick himself into whatever going ons he could find. Pleased as punch to find somewhere that had even more fucked up odd people than the land of Dreams. But then the Adversaries forces arrived. Oz being the very first realm to fall to his wrath. Escaping with a handfull of the "main characters" whose coatails he had attached himself too.
In the Mundy world He once more changed his name back to Merv. Finding he could not contact the Dream King to go back home (he just wasnt important enough for the king to take his calls after all)
Making a living as a scarecrow across the american midwest throughout the 1800's. He was eventually captured and forced to the Farm. Upon arriving he took up the job as janitor and one of the custodians, and went back to trying to find some grand adventure, always spinning long elaborate yarns to whoever would listen about how devilisly cool he was, and how grand his adventures.
From time to time he manages to stick his nose far enough into Fabletown business to get sucked into a small adventure here and there, and this keeps him quite content and happy with life, enough to keep him pushing his mop with minimal complaint
