Tucked away in New York City's Upper West Side, the clandestine community of FableTown thrives. The small community consists of three mere streets: Bulfinch Street, Andersen Street, and Kipling Street. It was founded in 1645, when the area was known as New Amsterdam. Before coming to the New World, their activities in Europe are largely unknown. The community itself consists of many large, gated apartment buildings, peppered with small Fable-run businesses.
Secrecy
Much effort goes into keeping FableTown secret from the local authorities and the general populace. In order to do this, FabelTown relies upon the various magic-users to keep Mundanes from realizing the true nature of this community.
With this in mind, many Fables have specific restrictions on their activities, designed to avoid giving away their true nature. Some examples are the glamours that must be worn by Grimble the Troll and Hobbes the Goblin, and Rapunzel, who is barred from spending more then 25 minutes in an Mundy location due to her rapid hair growth.
For any Fable who revevals their true nature to a Mundy, s/he can expect harsh punishment - including hard labor at The Farm or capital punishment.
Government
FableTown is run, theoretically, along democratic lines. However, many of the elected officials have stayed in power for centuries - elections are held rarely. The current longtime mayor of Fabletown is King Cole, and he delegates most of the responsibility to his deputy mayor, Snow White. Bigby Wolf, formerly the Big Bad Wolf, is the sheriff of FableTown.
