I'm really excited about fabletown coming to be.
It reminds me a lot of one of my favorite movies/books, the 10th Kingdom. Just curious if anyone read it, or saw the miniseries a few years back?
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Peter Pan and Where the Wild Things are, were my favorite fairytales as a little girl (granted, where the wild things are isn't classified as your traditional fairytale, but man did I love that book. Seriously wore out the bindings on it)

I was always partial to the little mermaid, both the disney version and the anderson version. and any other version i found to read when i was a kid.
There was also this one about like..uhm..12 dancing princesses i loved, but i can't remember the name of it. or much of the story, honestly. but i always liked it as a kid.
Nightmare Before Christmas. New, yes, but it's got the gothy fairy tale vibe.
...uhm. other stuff i can't remember cause im tired. but you get the idea. I used to watch this tv show on nick that had an animated version of a different fairytale every episode. it was one of my favs. ..can't remember the name of that, either. it's been ages.

I can't say I ever felt really attached to any of the 'classical' fairy tales that much when I was younger. In Sweden we have our own "fairy tale queen" (sadly passed a few years ago though), Astrid Lindgren, and I love some of her stories alot. Most people will recognize Pippi Longstocking but I always preferred those set more in a medieval/fantasy setting: "Brothers Lionheart", "Mio my Mio" and "Ronja".
There are also shorter stories that never got as famous but of which I love two specially much. One called "My dearest sister" about two sisters of which one finds a secret kingdom under the rose bush in their mother's garden, and my all time favourite, "Sunnanäng" (roughly "The meadow in the south"). It's about two children who lives in foster care (in the 19th century) and have a pretty dreadful life. They have to walk miles every day to get to school, in the dark through the woods in winter. One day they meet a red-winged little bird that show them through a gate in a wall that suddenly appears, into a wonderful park where children are playing and there's lemonade and cookies and they never want to leave again. It of course turns out that they had sat down to rest in the snow, fell asleep and froze to death...
Heh, yeah... so that's me. I also loved it when my (paternal) grandmother read to us (me and my sister) from their old old old edition of "Thousand and one nights". Partly because the book really looked like it could be a thousand YEARS old *lol*
Over all I love fairy tales and the like, I still read them and buy them for myself. Including norse folk lore stories. *nodnod*

Hmmmm, my favorite has always been Beauty and the Beast. Maybe cause i have always liked mean, almost feral men *muses* anyhow, yeah growling is hot. And the lush, secretive, mystical aspect of the silent, abandoned seeming castle sets an amazing mood. i didn't think Disney did the tale justice. And yeah, i like the original beginning storyline alot
