Ok so the poll itself isnt that magical, that is to say fairies and seraphim wont be appearing to dance jovially on your screen if you vote, but rather its a poll concerning magic! Here is the issue at hand: We are undecided what form of system this room should have to regulate combat and magic use. On the one hand I believe fairytales and fantasy stories are incredibly varied in their types of spells and magic and creatures. So I would like to have a fairly open "Free form" type room where people can explore their characters and themes unhindered. On the other hand, some people simply cannot handle such freedom, and spend all their online time just trying to kill and destroy and conquer everything in supreme godmod exuberance, ruining the roleplay for everyone else, ...obviously this does not create a place people are going to want to come to. So I put the question to you, the populace! What do you all think? Also Ive been trying to make a few magic disciplines as guidelines for a possible system to be used in the room. Check it out and possibly lend any suggestions to other types of magic you dont think are covered within. HerePerhaps a magic user could pic from these disciplines, and select a power rank , from between 0-10 , that would determine what level of spells they could cast? ....

Perhaps do something like what was done for Resources and Popularity. A simple ranking without so much structure that it stops being freeform.
So yes, like your 1-10 idea. It could just be another benchmark for the character sheets..from a non-magic user and novice, to whatever the top levels may be.

I think a mix of both would be best. I don't think many people online are responsible enough to handle a true "free form"...just look at all the free form rooms out there and you'll see what I mean. The majority tends to simply use "free form" as an excuse to go fucking wild and godmod. Allowing a bit of choice when it comes to the magic, but also regulating what can/what levels can be used, I think, would work out. Like you suggested with choosing the category and coresponding number, though perhaps there could be a bit more freedom? Maybe allowing the possibilty of creating one's own category, but dealing with it on a case by case basis as to what is ok and what's not. or...something. I'm tired, so I might not even be making any sense. *L*but i tried.

Hey, you know me, rules are good! ;D I concur with previous speakers.
And you get points deducted for typo-ing "clarity"!

I sorta like the freeform aspect of the Fables, besides...none of the stories have any elements of UBERMONSTRUOUSPLANETBLOWINGUPTHINGIE so, I dunno...I like freeform better but i'll go along with the system if that's enforced

Okay I voted FF based on the fact this is fables and as stated its hard to structure it and I like to think that everyone that comes in here to rp is coming to have fun not for mass distruction or being a jerk ....
If Im wrong then later on it could always be changed but thats my vote anyways I have rp both FF and WW so it really dose not matter to me much.....

Voted FF. If someone's being retarded, it's easy to remove them.

i thought about it...and i voted FF too. mostly because, as everyone else said, this is Fables. these characters really don't have absurd powers. and if someone did create their character to have some ridiculas mess of powers it's easy enough to just deal with them on a person-to-person basis.
also, the creativity allowed in FF is awesome. not having to label your powers as this kind or that kind, and all of that is great. you don't have to inhibit the creativity there. i think it'll allow for people to come up with some awesome concepts for their characters that will really add some wicked flavor to the room - which i'm so looking forward to seeing!
if there was going to be a structure i think it should flow more like...guidelines. you know? "stay within these perimeters." that way the structure would fall in the middle of rules and free form and at least everyone wins a little, right?
i could be wrong, and it could become all chaotic - because it did in my former room. but when i compare the two...that was a freeform vampire room. and this is fables. really...i think it'd be fine here!
besides...everyone here is awesomely awesome. i don't think there'll be trouble!

I think I may need to disagree a bit*L* Ive noticed over the past few days the chars have rapidly turned for amusing enchanted types, to more gargantuanly powered types who seem built mostly to destroy the planet.
We'll see how it goes yet. I dont want to hear anyone who posted here bitching if we kick out their friend for being a menace then! I have you all down on paper!*g*

I notice this too and as such I shall say this: You don't have to allow such gigantor powers to flow through here. Certain characters can be kept as NPC even.
For example, Merlin or Maleficent I'd personally keep as an NPC due to their sheer magnitude of power. I mean, they're just nuts. They'd be good story arcs and such though. But also at the same time, if someone who is reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally responsible requests them, then it should be for certain reasons like story advancement or a new branch for the ongoing story period, like say Maleficent devises some clever scheme to turn the Adversary's puppets into dolls that can set themselves on fire and never burn out but the flames also never die.
Then you got just plain insane stuff like, for example, the recent Alice with an arsenal. I know she had a lot of that in American McGee's Alice, but one must also understand that this was all in her head. I mean, in actuality, she doesn't have those things. Either way, if one were to grant her such tools, I'd say it should be for a specific storyline [as in she doesn't always keep them. maybe the vorpal blade since it's her starting weapon she always has, but aside that...] and a reason why she'd have that stuff [like being homicidal and insane]
All in all, I forget what I was saying. Carry on.
